Citizens Depopulation Process Receives a Makeover

By January 24, 2017June 9th, 2020Citizens

Citizens unpopular depopulation process is getting a makeover. Starting with the February 21, 2017 assumption, changes are being implemented to bring greater efficiency and transparency to the process for policyholders.

Starting on January 4, 2017 Citizens began notifying policyholders via US mail of available offers from participating takeout companies who are interested in assuming Citizens’ personal lines policies. The mailings include a “Policyholder Choice Form” which includes available offers and estimated renewal premiums from both Citizens and the takeout carrier(s). Along with the premiums, Citizens is also offering a coverage comparison.

Policyholders will have 30 days (February 3, 2017 for the 1st assumption) to return their Policyholder Choice Form to Citizens if they wish to remain with Citizens. If you wish to remain with Citizens, we recommend that all policyholders email the form directly to Karen Poirrier at KPoirrier@insuranceresourcesllc.com and we will remove your policy from the takeout as long as the form is received prior to the last business day before takeout date.

It is important to note that if the Policyholder Choice Form is not received within 30 days of the 1st takeout letter (again February 21, 2017 for the 1st assumption) the policy will be assumed by one of the participating takeout companies. With this new format, post-assumption opt-outs are no longer allowed.
